Mimi Webb at the Jingle Bell Ball
The energy crackled in the air as we collaborated on stage graphics for Mimi Webb's Jingle Bell Ball performance. Brainstorming with the team was a whirlwind of creative ideas, fueled by the shared excitement of bringing Mimi's music to life on such a massive stage. We knew we wanted the visuals to be dynamic and captivating, mirroring the infectious energy of her music.

One of the biggest challenges was translating the concept of a "maze" into visually stunning graphics. We wanted it to be playful and engaging for the audience, without overwhelming the stage or distracting from Mimi's performance. Striking that balance was a rewarding puzzle, and seeing the final product come alive on the night of the Jingle Bell Ball was pure magic. The lights danced across the intricate design, perfectly complementing Mimi's vibrant performance. It was a moment of immense pride for the entire team, a testament to the collaborative spirit and creative problem-solving that made it all possible.

Making the maze
Constructing the maze was a challenge. The influences we were heavily reliant on pacman and the tron look. Additionally from that, it had to feel somewhat related to the song. Ghost of you was about someone struggling with a break-up and seeing their ex-partner everywhere.

So we had to make the maze feel even more mazey without making it feel like it's taking away from the performance.

We used Blender for this construction as the Eevee render engine gave us beautiful blooms and glows allowing us to really manipulate that tron look.
Screen Layout and Projection
Challenge: Adapting to Last-Minute Screen Changes
Things got interesting near the end of the project. We'd already designed a universal screen layout for Mimi's upcoming tour, assuming the Jingle Bell Ball would follow a similar format. However, we received the actual screen layout for the event just a few days beforehand.

Solution: Reframing for Optimal Performance
This late change required some quick thinking. To ensure the visuals wouldn't distract from Mimi's performance and maintained narrative flow during playback, we decided to render out all the graphics and then reframe them individually to fit the provided screen layout. This way, we could adapt our universal design to the specific needs of the Jingle Bell Ball while still delivering a cohesive and impactful experience.
